Vegas Indeed

Vegas was great. Worth every groggy morning since we took that red-eye flight back. I am working on getting pictures posted. In the meantime I plan on using the 3 day weekend to recalibrate my internal clock.

Thanks for coming out, peeps. It was a great time

Digital Domain

I'm in the process of formatting the wife's old PowerMac. A majority of her important documents were already transferred off the old beige box. However there are 5 things - a document and 4 sound files - that need moving over to our PC. Purchasing a quality digital video or still camera gives us the opportunity to record a moment for eternity. Allowing us to relive moments with a person or pet after they have passed on. Similar to the final scene in 'A.I', cold sterile technology can reproduce an event with more clarity than our imagination, yet our recognition/recollection (imprinted in our brain/heart/soul(?)) is requisite for bittersweet warmth to spring from a decoded file.

For Jenny

Today's hour of the Simpson's was a one-two punch of great episodes. The 1st episode was the touching 'Lisa's Substitute', one of Jenny's favorites. I've took a picture of it in case she wasn't home to watch it. The second episode is one of my top three openings - the PBS skit with 'Do Shut Up' from Missionary: Impossible. Classic! So Nice We Drove It Twice

It being the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) out of the city. The wife and I were busy recapping our great weekend as we left that we missed the sign that read 'Verrazano Bridge/Staten Island'. The sign on the BQE that we noticed was "Staten Island' this way and 'Rte 78' (or something) that way. Not knowing that we must go through Staten Island in order to cross the Verrazano Bridge, I made a split-decision. Which sent us into Brighton. Brighton is a fucking terrible place to get lost in. The route back to the Verrazano Bridge is a sadistic maze; drivers are insane, people triple-park where-the-hell-ever. I give a big helping of 'screw you' for Brighton, except for the security guard at the Community College who gave us directions back to the bridge. He's a champ.

Once we are on the way back to the Verrazano Bridge things calm down. Which is when the wife realizes she left her purse in our friend's apartment in Brooklyn. So back to Brooklyn for the very last time. The last time because said friend is moving to Park Slope in two weeks. Which means we have a new route to travel to visit her, which I am sure we will get distracted on and drive right into a meat-packing district or the Hudson River.

NYC MD/BD 05

The wife and I are in NYC this weekend for a one-two celebration weekend. 'Still state-side' mom is in Hoboken visiting my sister whose bday is on Monday. Since Sunday is Mother's day the choice was obvious - trip to New York. We have today to ourselves to shop around the city and see friends. Tomorrow we are headed off to the sister's fiance's mother's (!) house to join in on their Mother's Day BBQ. That probably means we are returning home late, which I don't enjoy, however I'm sure some barbecue will make that right.

Side note: Now that the wife is officially on-board with our walking/running program we walk/ran through Brooklyn upon our arrival. It's fun to run in new places. You get to see different environments. What did I learn about this section of Brooklyn - it's got a lot of homeless shelters in it...

Don't forget to call your mother's!

Average White Team

Our kickball team is so great on defense and so weak on offense that we have now tied two games. We are the Baltimore Ravens of the DC Monument division. It's certainly not the high of winning a game but it beats walking off the field as losers.

I'm at a loss for topics tonight. Can you tell?

That's Why They Call It Work

That is what I say to the wife in the morning as she bemoans that she doesn't like/want to go to her job. "But that's why the call it work", I say. Well, this morning she appropriately threw that phrase in my face. I was complaining about having to spend the day at a client's babysitting their A/V equipment for a policy meeting. I hindsight it wasn't such a bad day - just mind-numbing. Made even more so by my recent mantra to shun manual, repetitious labor for high-concept, high end creative works.

Still, these gigs are all bad. The free food - tea, scones, muffins, sandwiches - help the hours pass. For the eight hours I spent there I only did two things - place a call to the UK and manipulate Powerpoint slides which only took 90 minutes of my eight-hour work day. The rest of the time I surreptitiously read Wired magazines I brought from home.

New Mom

This past weekend we celebrated Mother's day with my mother-in-law. Being a newlywed, this was my 1st time celebrating Mother's day with her. We celebrated early because we are expected in NYC this coming weekend. It is of course - Mother's Day - plus the following day is my sister's bday. So NYC we must go. Since 'birth-mother' will be overseas next year wife and I thought it best we celebrate actual Mother's Day with my Mom while see it still state-side.

This week's main attraction was the Spy museum. It's cool - and big! A staffer told us it takes 5 hours to read every item in the museum. The weekend was slightly marred on two occasions. First the weather on Saturday - rain - made mom-in-law a nervous driver as she traveled from Philly. Second, some jerk swiped mom-in-law's car in a parking lot and fled the scene without leaving a note. These two things cast a slight pall over the weekend for mom-in-law. While she never completely forgot these micro-tragedies, the spy museum and late-night conversations help her forget about them for a bit.
