NFL Week 12: Thanks For Nothing

The only aspect of my life I am not thankful for this year is my football team. Week after week the game is just.out.of...reach for team. Expensive "stars" underperforming, passes get dropped, blocks missed, running backs mediocre. I guess I should be thankful to have a football team. I could live in Utah; who would I root for then?

Philly & the Inlaws: 10-1
Patriots & Adam: 10-1
Giants & Dan: 5-6
Detroit & Sam: 4-6
Washington & me: 3-8

PS: Actually I am thankful for Sunday night's game. It snowed like a Norse god ascended to power in Mile High stadium. Despite the inches of snow, both team's (Denver;Raiders) offenses were explosive. A great game to watch, for which I am grateful.

NFL Week 10: Give Him The Hook

There's a rebellion in DC! No, this doesn't have to do with the presidential election. It's about Washington's quarterback. For the past weeks the fans have booed the very boo-worthy performances of our starting QB (experienced but no more talent). Finally, in Week 10 our coach put him on the pine. Only it was too late and Patrick Ramsey (raw talent, lacks experience) had to overcome both a 17 point deficit and work off a lot of rust. The next four weeks bring four of the best team this season, so I doubt out record will be improving soon. Bah - let's tally the standings:

New England & Adam(8-1)
Philly & the In-Laws (8-1)
Giants & Dan (5-4)
Detroit & Sam (5-4)
Washington & me (3-6)

Got Sweet?

Saturday night I took the wife to see Matthew Sweet (Girlfriend; Sick of myself) at the 930 club. Mr. Sweet put on a good show. However, the highlight was his mid-90's radio hit 'Sick of Myself'. With its snappy lyrics & guitars that crash down like avalanches it was the highlight of the evening. Sadly, this high water mark came in the 1st 15 minutes of show; the rest of the evening paled in comparison. Fortunately I had Matthew Sweet's fan base to entertain me. There was the body-double for Homer Simpson wearing a Mr. Sparkle t-shirt. This prompted my wife to decree that my Mr. Sparkle shirt (a gift from her) could never be worn again. Then there was the 40 something dude behind us that backed the band on air guitar. His repertoire included the windmill and walking backwards whilst playing.

Ahh...air guitar.

Frosty!

It's about that time in Northern Virginia. What time is that? Time when I need to scrap frost/ice of my windshield before going to work each morning. This is one of rare things about the winter season I dislike. Of course, the solution to this problem is to park the car in the garage. However, that would mean cleaning out the garage. And have you seen that beast? It's a mess in there.

NFL Week 9: Ups & Down

Ouch. It was a bad week for many people in the NFL. Except for Washington! We won! And against the Lions. This means for the rest of the season no matter what terrible things he has to say about Washington, the only comeback needed is this week's game. Sucker!

Let's recap:
New England & Adam: 7-1 (W)
Philly & the In-laws: 7-1 (L)
Giants & Dan: 5-3 (L)
Detriot & Sam: 4-4 (L)
Washington & Me: 3-5 (W)

Kids For Kerry

I cast my vote this morning in the gym of an elementary school. Like some American's I too waited in line over an hour to cast my vote. The drudgery of waiting was broken up when the school buses arrived. As the first bus pulled up to the school's entrance, those onboard the bus began cheering "Kerry, Kerry, Kerry" in their cute little kid voices. Then the second bus pulled up and a bunch of kids hung out the window shouting "Vote for Kerry!". Teachers rushed onto the buses to quash the wee one's enthusiasm. Quick! Somebody call the ACLU! Their First Amendment rights have been violated!

NFL Week 8: The Crest

Week 8 was a very important week. One of the two undefeated teams lost and a controversial call in the final seconds of the another game predicted the outcome of today's election. While there were more losses than wins this week (within this blog's tally, anyway) everyone's percentage is still above .500. The only exception is my team. Sigh, stupid team.

Philly & In-Laws: 7-0 (W)
Patriots & Adam: 6-1 (L)
Giants & Dan: 5-2 (W)
Detroit & Sam: 4-3 (L)
Washington & Me: 2-5 (L)
