Immersion

Ever since this post which lead to this comic, I have immersed myself in the world of Penny Arcade. During any moment of free time I read my way through the archives to return to present day. Sometimes I was confused, sometime I only got half the joke, but I spent most the time with my sides split, crying from laughter.

Onto the sister-topic of obsession, I will be watching tonight's re-run of this Sci-Fi program. I missed Friday night's original run because we had to pick up company from the train station. Just who do they think they are? Making me wait an extra two days to see my precious, precious program, making me go outside, making me watch - nay - interact with analog people.

Psyche! Just kidding. The company was great, the weather (snowy) was great. We got to entertain a lot this weekend. Which means we broke out the Smores-maker and did it up nice-n-toasty.

Fucking Fish

Why the hell do fish have bones? What can't they just be tasty, boneless piles of delicious food that patiently wait to be scooped up and delivered to my grocer. And why won't the fishmonger tell me the fish that I repeatedly, helplessly, needlessly, keep buying has bones? Why can't he suggested the tasty, de-boned, easy-to-eat fish instead. You know, the one that I always mean to buy but never, ever remember. What is wrong with me?

Decorative

Our 'borrowed' house with christmas lights. Ignore the messy garage.

We recently found the USB cable that connects our camera to the PC. Now that we have access to our holiday pictures I will be sharing a chose few of the blog.

Frag From The Past

As I was cleaning items off of the PC's hard drive I came across this and this. I completely forgot about these games, which I spent a lot of time playing during my first and last yearat college. No need to go into details since 2 of my 4 readers were present for the Quake III Arena games. Instead: shout out to Volcano God and RocketmanYea . Those were good, good times.

Apocalypse Ahora!

This week brought two signs of the impending apocalypse. WHFS - the pioneering sound of alternative music in DC and host of the inimitable HFStival - is no more. If you turn to 99.1 FM you get not alterna-rock but espanol. I tuned in this morning and laughed out loud. It's very surreal.

The second sign is that I - he who fears energy drinks of all kinds - had one and lived to tell about it. I didn't go blind, sprout a mutated appendage, or collapse from cardiac arrest. Plus it was rather tasty. Chug it!

Gardening At Night

When the Mom stayed with us over the holidays she passed judgment on my attempts at keeping up the front and back yard. The judgment wasn't positive. She educating me on the importance of picking up all the leaves that pool on or around the plants - not just the leaves that are easiest to reach. Now, after I come home from work I gardening by the waning daylight. Soon I will relocated my efforts in the backyard which I ignored all together these last six months.

I am hoping that I can gather up all the leaves before the first major snow arrives in town. In garden education, I learned that leaves crushed under heavy snow being to rot, which can damage plants.

Catastophie Averted

Saturday afternoon I got a call from the wife who was at work. She had forgotten the pizza money she'd collected the day before and asked if I would run it up to her school. For some reason that seemed good at the time, I decided to take our cat - Bean - along for the ride. If this isn't illegal - it should be. Having him in the car was a distraction for me. I was always checking to see where he was; keeping him from climbing over my arms so he could see out the driver's side window; pulling him off of the dash. To my relief, he curled up on the passenger seat for the ride home.

In no way do I blame the Bean for his behavior. This is all on me. It certainly was dangerous to have him roaming around the car without a passenger to keep him in check while I negotiated the streets and highways. Not the smartest thing I ever did but it turned out okay in the end

Birthday Dinner

We continued our tradition of a birthday dinner out on the town. This year I had my dinner at Red, Hot, & Blue. I had some of my favorite foods - ribs, jalapeno bites, hush puppies and hot pecan pie. Wife - with all of her grace and beauty - charmed the waiter into putting a single candle on the pie. Since I turned 27 this year I am not sure what the single candle symbolized - maybe our first birthday dinner since being married? Regardless, it was a fabulous birthday dinner.

NFL Playoffs

This is stating the obvious for most of my readership - the NFL playoffs being today. My home team (Washington) didn't even come close to a playoff birth. Home teams aside the playoffs are great fun to watch. All the drama and desperation of elimination gives each playoff game a special edge.

I hope that the owners in this story cast off their greed - football has become a great sport because of its revenue sharing ideals. This ideal goes a long way to creating a clean slate for each season. It makes sure that individual talent - not money - has the most influence on a team's performance.

This story should reduce some of the bad publicity basketball incurred earlier this season.

Back to Work

Yesterday was my 1st day back to work in two weeks. No big changes occurred at the office during my vacation, which certainly helped me get up to speed. I am glad that it is a shortened work week for me. There is nothing distinctly difficult about what I did on my 1st day back. However work requires a specific concentration that is not necessary for watching TV, playing computer games, doing housework or traveling to West Palm Beach or Philly. I am thankful to have this shortened work week so I may readjust and prepare myself for the 40 hour work weeks that I face from now until the 4th of July holiday.

Back From Holiday

I hope everyone had a good new year. We spent ours in West Palm Beach with members of my mom's family. It was good to see everyone and there were crazy hijinks that only occur at family gathers. New Year's Eve held a special treat this year. Orginally the whole family gathering went to City Place in West Palm Beach to celebrate new year's. By 10pm we'd splintered into two groups, siblings - wife, sister, and sister's boyfriend - and the rest of the family. We hung out at Wet Willies for 2 hours drinking grain alcohol slushies. It was nice to have this time with my sister and her boyfriend, even more so on New Year's Eve. The next day the wife & I flew into Philly for her mom's birthday, then caught the train back home on the 2nd.

On paper, Two Thousand Five is going to be an interesting year for us. We've some great plans in the works. It will be fun watching how the year shapes up.
So long Oh Four, Hello Oh Five.
